Depth of Field

This is another photograph by Annie Leibovitz. This is portraying the story of The Wizard Of Oz. I'm using this to analyse Depth of Field. The focus is on the people and also the hurricane creating a depth of field between the primary focal point  and the secondary focal point. My eye tends to be drawn towards the hurricane rather than the models. I would like to know how this effect of the storm was created.

Focal Point

  • This is photo taken by Vee Spears, an Australian photographer currently living in Paris. It is one of a series of photographs from her Birthday Party range. Showing children with different objects in front of a white background. This is the photo I am using to focus on the focal point. This could have a variety of focal point, but my eye is drawn to the scissors and plait straight away. All of the shot is in focus, therefore your own eye chooses it's individual focal point. This is a very simple and effective photo.

Compostition

  •  This image is by American portrait photographer - Annie Leibovitz. This is one taken from her collection of fairy-tale photographs. I am using this photo to demonstrate composition I think that a lot of the elements in this picture have been photographed separately and edited together. The composition in this picture is very good as all the mermaids and fish overlap and intertwine. My eye is automatically drawn to the read haired mermaid sitting to the right. Which I think follows the rule of thirds.

Lighting

  • This is a photograph by British Photographer - Perou. I'm using this photo to demostrate lighting. I think this photo was taken against a white back drop using high lighting to create shadow. The black and white effect really exaggerates the highlights and shadows in the photo. This image simple but is also very striking and effective.

First Analysis

FACTUAL:  This photo was taken by Perou, a British fashion, portrait and music photographer. He is becoming increasingly famous since a Dirty Sexy Things (Perou creating an exhibition of his favourite photos with chosen models).
CONTEXT: This is a photo of Courtney Love from the rock band - Hole. This is one of three published shots.
TECHNICAL:  I think this photo was taken on a location rather than a set as it depicts a run down bathroom.  I think an effect has been put on the photo or was put on a certain mode to vignette the edges.

AESTHETIC:  I like this photo because it is almost an invasion of privacy as she in on the toilet. It shows the whole rock'n'roll lifestyle in one picture. What I like most about the photo is the angle the photo is shot at, it makes it become more interesting and the way the black tiles that draw across the room are diagonal, giving it a sense of shape and length.
